Smarter Balanced Testing
You will be taking the Smarter Balanced tests this week, April 4-8, in your Math and Science classes. The tests are required by the state and measure your knowledge of state content standards in Math, English, and Science. The tests measure your college readiness and if you perform well, you may be exempt from taking non-credit remedial courses in college, saving you money and time! You can also substitute your SBAC scores for ACT scores for college entrance and will receive guaranteed admission to all public SD Universities with a score of 3 or 4 in BOTH Math and ELA. You can also learn a semester finals exemption (see below)!
How Can I Prepare for SBAC Testing?
  • Attend your assigned testing sessions on time (regular ELA/math classes)
  • Get plenty of rest the night before testing & eat a healthy breakfast
  • Math/Science testing will take place during your math class time. ELA testing will take place during your English class time
  • Bring your charged computer as well as charger
  • Bring headphones, water bottle, pencils, something to read
  • Keep cell phones powered off and put away or left in locker/car
  • Give your best effort on the tests!
Finals Exemptions
Scoring a 3 or 4 on BOTH your ELA and Math assessments qualifies you for a senior final exam exemption. You will have the choice to be exempt from 1st semester finals during your senior year, which means you will have additional days off during finals week!
