Frequently Asked Questions about Registration

You should have received your registration packet during GRADtime on February 28th. You will register for your classes during the next GRADtime on March 13!  Registration will close the evening of the 13th.  We encourage you to take some time and think about your class options for next year.  What you sign up for on 3/13 is what you will be taking next year!  If you have questions about classes, please talk to your teachers or school counselor.  We are happy to help you with this process!

If you are not at school on the 13th and do not register ahead of time, please make an appointment with your school counselor on March 14-15 to help enter your classes into Skyward.

If you do not sign up for classes by the evening of March 13, your school counselor will automatically sign up for what you need to graduate.  You will NOT be able to make changes once registered. This is why it’s important for you to register yourself and pick the classes YOU want!

What is DUAL ENROLLMENT?

·         Dual enrollment is taking a college class where you receive college credit AND high school credit for graduation.

·         It helps you get a jumpstart on your college classes and saves you money making it much cheaper in high school.

o   Dual enrollment cost per credit while in high school = $48.33

o   Full college tuition cost per credit after graduation = $259.10 (SDSU for reference)

·         Classes available at all major South Dakota colleges, universities, and technical schools. (on campus and online)

·         Please talk to your school counselor if you are interested in signing up for dual enrollment and want more information!

·         Dual enrollment for the fall opens as early as April 1st and we recommend being registered before you leave school for the summer so your school counselor can assist you with this process.  (teachers and school counselors are not at school during the summer!)

All sophomore students will be taking the PreACT again March 6th at CHS. This is a practice ACT, but in 11th grade you will take the ACT. College admissions representatives and scholarship committees use your ACT score to determine admission and scholarships.

You can also create a profile on myact.org to access free practice materials.

The test begins right at 8:25am on 3/6/23.  Testing locations will be posted outside of the CCC.  Once the test is complete, you are excused for the rest of the day. 😊

Your monthly self-care reminder:

This time of year can be stressful with course registration and testing.  We can become stressed out and over stimulated… both students and adults!  Take time to slow down, take some deep breaths, and self-regulate during your busy day.

What does self-regulate mean?

Self-regulation is the ability to understand and manage your own behavior and reactions.

Example – You got into a fight with a family member that morning, you have a big test to take in the afternoon, and your friend just sent you a hurtful text.  You have a lot going on!!  If you are using self-regulation, you might take a few deep breathes, identify what you are feeling (overwhelmed, sad, angry, hungry…), and think about how you want to respond before immediately texting them back while emotions are still high.  Or maybe you wait until after you take the big test and have had some time to calm down before texting your friend back.

These skills take lots of practice, even for adults!
