Some students have been asking about PSAT. Here is some information about the test.
PSAT/NMSQT stands for Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/Student National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, an academic competition for recognition and scholarships. The mission of National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) is to recognize and honor the academically talented students of the United States. Qualifying students will then be awarded the scholarships two years later, typically, their freshman year in college. Students can take the PSAT/NMSQT their 8th, 9th, and/or 10th grade year for guidance purposes only, but to be considered for this National Merit Scholarship program, students must take this test as juniors in the fall of their junior year. Of the 1.5 million entrants, some 50,000 with the highest PSAT/NMSQT® Selection Index scores (calculated by doubling the sum of the Reading, Writing and Language, and Math Test scores) qualify for recognition in the National Merit Scholarship Program.
